Texas Economics Association
The Texas Economics Association (TEA), formerly the University of Texas Economics Association (UTEA), is an undergraduate student organization at the University of Texas at Austin.
History
The Texas Economics Association established on October 28, 1985, the organization has provided students with social, professional, academic, and philanthropic opportunities each year.
Professional
Professional opportunities have included formerly annual trips to Monterrey, Mexico and the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank Student Conference, and bringing professionals such as Kurt Purdom of the Texas Department Of Banking to present at the organization’s meetings.
Academic
Academic opportunities have included paid economic studies for members and professors that have visited the organization to discuss their research.
Social
The TEA has been ardent in supporting local businesses and participating in community activities through the years. Social activities have ranged from mini-golf at Peter Pan mini-golf, ice skating, volleyball and other sports to traditional meals at DoubleDave's Pizzaworks, a local pizza restaurant.
Philanthropy
In 2009 the association sponsored the Wheel of Misfortune at Longhorn Halloween. In 2005, the association selected the Dallas Heart House as their charity recipient for that year.
