Teddy Niedermaier

Edward "Teddy" Niedermaier is an American composer, pianist, and educator whose original music has been performed throughout the United States and in England, France, Germany, South Korea, Kosovo, Moldova, and Japan.
Biography
Niedermaier was born in November 1983 in Annapolis, MD, and grew up in Minneapolis, MN. He earned his BM and MM in composition from The Juilliard School, where he studied under tutelage of John Corigliano, Samuel Adler, and Robert Beaser. In 2010, he received a Doctor of Music degree in composition from Indiana University as a student of Claude Baker and David Dzubay.
Niedermaier is an Associate Professor of Core Music Studies at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of the Performing Arts, where he has taught music theory, history, and composition since 2011. He previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory at Oberlin Conservatory in fall 2009, and 2010-2011. He has also been on the faculty of the European American Musical Alliance (EAMA) summer program in Paris since 2006, where he teaches solfège, species and advanced counterpoint, and keyboard harmony.
Recent works include Grand Teton for orchestra (2017), premiered by the CCPA Contemporary Ensemble; Concertino on Themes of Haydn for cello and strings (2016), premiered by cellist Madeline Fayette and the New York Classical Players; Trio for English Horn, Bassoon, and Piano (2016), premiered by Robert Walters, Judith LeClair, and the composer; and the forthcoming Princess Bari, a narrative suite for solo piano. In April 2016, Robert Walters performed Niedermaier's Morning Star for English horn and string quartet on the HeightsArts chamber music series in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Another recent piece, the Oboe Sonata (2014), was composed for Eugene Izotov and given performances by Aaron Hill (Wisconsin) and Anna Velzo (Chicago). Niedermaier is preparing a series of solo piano recitals in February 2018 consisting entirely of original compositions.
Niedermaier also published an article in the spring 2015 volume of Symposium, the online journal of the College Music Society, entitled "Music and World Events Since 1945: A Graduate Seminar."
Niedermaier's works have been performed by Thomas Stacy, Elaine Douvas, Linda Strommen, Daniel Stolper, Roger Roe, Minnesota Youth Symphonies, the New Juilliard Ensemble, the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, The Kolot Ensemble, and Chelsea Chen. He has received recent commissions from the CCPA Wind Ensemble, CCPA Contemporary Ensemble, Gaudete Brass, Sejong Cultural Society of Chicago, pianist Meng-Chieh Liu, and the Sheridan String Quartet.
Honors include the 2009 Dean’s Prize in Composition from Indiana University, two national awards from the National Federation of Music Clubs in 2007, and the 2004 Palmer Dixon Prize awarded by The Juilliard School.
As a pianist, Niedermaier has collaborated with musicians such as Elaine Douvas, Thomas Stacy, Roger Roe, and April Clayton. Since 2003, he has been serving as a staff pianist for the annual Thomas Stacy English Horn Seminar in Carmel Valley, CA, at Hidden Valley Center for the Arts. In 2010, he performed with members of the Indiana University New Music Ensemble at the DAM Festival Pristina in Kosovo.
