Tayyeb Abu Shehadeh

Tayyeb Mohamed Abu Shehadeh was a Palestinian computer specialist and member of Anonymous based in Nablus, Palestine. He was shot while protesting against Operation Protective Edge.

Life

Shehadeh was a student at An-Najah University. He belonged to an offshoot splinter group of Anonymous called Hacker Brigade.

Incident

On July 25 he protested in Huwwara, West Bank while wearing his Guy Fawkes mask. Subsequently there were reports that both armed Jewish settlers and IDF soldiers began shooting live ammunition into the crowd of Palestinian protesters. According to some reports the Palestinians were throwing stones. According to Red Crescent medic Ahmed Owda, a female sniper shot Shehadeh through the mask below his right eye. He was pronounced dead aged 22 a few hours later at Rafidia hospital. After the surgeon removed the bullet lodged in Shehadeh's brain, it was discovered that IDF had used dum dum bullets, a type of bullet that expands which is illegal under international law.

Retaliation

After fellow Anonymous members posted his blood soaked Guy Fawkes mask online they vowed revenge. Anonymous cyber-hackers and affiliated hacktivist vigilantes subsequently hacked multiple Israeli government websites, some of which they successfully knocked offline, including one belong to Mossad. Anonymous cyberattackers subsequently began targeting non-government Israeli web domains. Anonymous subsequently paid tribute to him on hacktivist forums through name repetitions in the form of "His name was Abu Shehada", "His name was Abu Shehada" etc.
