Syed Hasan Imam Rizvi Zangipuri

Syed Hasan Imam Rizvi Zangipuri (born 2 March 1974), also known as Hujjatul Islam Maulana Syed Hasan Imam Rizvi Zangipuri, is an Indian Shia Islamic cleric, religious scholar, preacher, and community leader. He is serving as the Imam-e-Jumma wal Jamaat of Haidery Jama Masjid, Mira Road, Mumbai, since 2003. He is also associated with various religious, educational, and social organizations and is involved in preaching, teaching, and community leadership.

Early life and family

Syed Hasan Imam Rizvi Zangipuri was born on 2 March 1974 in Jangipur, Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, India. He belongs Khandaan e Ustaad (a family traditionally associated with religious scholarship.)

His father, Dr. Syed Sher Ali Rizvi Zangipuri, and his mother, Basera Begum Khatoon, were influential in his early religious and educational upbringing. He spent his early years in Jangipur, Ghazipur.

Education

Religious education

He undertook formal Islamic studies in India and Iran. He studied at Jamia Imania Nasiriya, Jaunpur, for approximately five years, followed by advanced religious education in Qom Seminary, Iran. where he studied for around ten years. He completed the traditional Aalim, Adeeb, and Kaamil examinations conducted by the Aligarh Muslim University Board, reflecting proficiency in Islamic sciences, Arabic literature, and religious scholarship.

During his studies in Qom, he was associated with prominent Shia scholars, including:

  • Hossein Wahid Khorasani
  • Naser Makarim Shirazi
  • Kamal al Haydari

Religious career

Imam-e-Jumma wal Jamaat

In 2003, he was appointed as the Imam-e-Jumma wal Jamaat of Haidery Jama Masjid, Mira Road, Mumbai, a position he continues to hold. His responsibilities include leading congregational prayers, delivering Friday sermons, Quranic and religious teaching, and acting as a spokesperson on religious and community matters.

Personal life

Syed Hasan Imam Rizvi Zangipuri married Zakira Nishat Fatima Rizvi on 18 August 2005. He has two sons- Syed Raza Imam Zangipuri, Syed Jawad Imam Zangipuri
