Susan Tietjen
Susan Tietjen is a councilwoman in East Hanover, New Jersey. A school principal and educator by profession, Tietjen was elected to her first term as a councilwoman in 2001 and reelected in 2004. Prior to being elected to town council Susan was a mamber of the East Hanover Board of Education.
Tietjen previously served nine years on the East Hanover Board of Education before becoming a councilwoman. During her service on the Board of Education, she served as board president. As a councilwoman, Tietjen has focused on open space preservation and shared services. She served as the town's police commissioner and council president.
In January 2006, Principal Michael Volpe of Brooklake Elementary School in Florham Park, New Jersey resigned. The Board of Education chose Tietjen to be principal. She accepted.
In 2006, Tietjen ran in the Republican primary for Morris County Freeholder. Her campaign focused on open space preservation, lower property taxes and no dual office holding. She finished fourth in a nine way race, narrowly behind the third place finisher, in a race where the top three candidates captured the party nominations.
