Surinder Sandhu

Surinder Sandhu is a Sarangi player and composer. He is the disciple of the great Ustad Sabri Khan of the Senia Rampur Moradabad gharana.

Surinder Sandhu has been described as a truly unique composer whose music encompasses multiple genres. Surinder’s compositions are a distinctive experiment combining jazz, western classical and Asian fusion music. Sandhu trained on the sarangi, an ancient Indian instrument whose sound is likened to the human voice, and this instrument punctuates his music. His recent venture ‘The Fictionist’ featuring the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, numerous celebrated guest musicians and The Surinder Sandhu Band, has received widespread critical acclaim since its’ release on September 29th 2008.{Cn}} The album includes a symphony commissioned to celebrate Liverpool as the capital of culture for 2008.

His eclectic mix of guest musicians has ranged from acclaimed rock guitarist Steve Vai to saxophonist Andy Sheppard. Sandhu has received considerable support as an emerging artist from fellow musicians and music critics alike, who recognise his great potential.
