Super League (bodybuilding)
Super League is a bodybuilding and sport competition founded by Jea Jung, former heavyweight champion bodybuilder, in 2016, which features select athletes known to exhibit the skills of both bodybuilding and powerlifting. These athletes are contested winners of the Super League Championships, held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada.
History
Jea Jung, founder and owner of City Athletic Club in Las Vegas, Nevada and inventor of jBells, created the concept of Super League in 2016 - publicly unveiling it in 2017 along with bodybuilding legend and six-time Mr. Olympia, Dorian Yates.
League Council
Athletes are drafted through Super League's League Council. Council members include Dorian Yates, Erin Stern and Stan Efferding.
Competition
Athletes compete against one another in two areas: physical output and body measurements via 3D laser technology . The sport component involves athletes performing eight standard lifts that exhibit the strength of their major muscle groups. The next component involves laser measurement technology that provides the analytics of the athlete's body.
Weight Classes
Male and female athletes are divided into their respective weight classes:
Male
- Light Heavyweight: 180 to 199 lbs
- Cruiserweight: 200 to 219 lbs
- Heavyweight: 220 to 239 lbs
- Super Heavyweight: 240+ lbs
Female
- Angelweight: 119 lbs and below
- Featherweight: 120 to 129 lbs
- Lightweight: 130 to 139 lbs
- Middleweight: 140 to 150 lbs
Output Round
Athletes compete against one another in a series of eight movements that specifically target each major muscle group. Athletes strategically determine the amount of weight for each type of lift, as well as the amount of repetitions for each type of lift. This is calculated in terms of the athletes body weight and makes up the first score, called the Output Quotient (OQ).
3D Round
Three-dimensional (3D) extrusion advanced laser measurement technology is used to measure the analytics of the athlete rounded to the nearest one-hundredth micron. This second score consists of three ratio values each labeled as a Delta.
Delta 1
Upper Body-to-Waist = 3:1
Delta 2
Lower Body-to-Waist = 3:1
Delta 3
Upper Body-to-Lower Body = 1:1
The Delta for male versus female measurements are identified as follows:
Male measurements
- Upper body = chest and arms
- Lower body = thighs and calves
Female measurements
- Upper body = shoulders and arms
- Lower body = hips and thighs
Each of the three Deltas are calculated together as an average to make up the second 3D Score.
Scoring
The Output Quotient (OQ) from the sport component (SuperHuman Function) and the 3D Score from the digitally-founded body analytics (SuperHuman Form) are combined to create the ultimate Super Score. The athlete with the highest Super Score is declared champion. All other athletes are provided an official world ranking, according to respective final scores.
