Sunil Prem Vyas

Sunil Prem Vyas (born 5 December 1977) is an Indian actor and film maker. He founded his own theatre group Darpan Theatre Arts (DTA) which eventually evolved into Darpan Theatre & Cine Arts (DTCA). Darpan Theatre group has staged more than 17 plays written by renowned playwrights such as George Bernard Shaw, Vijay Tendulkar, Ratnakar Matkari, Molière and Mahesh Elkunchwar. DTCA as a film production house has made films such as The Artist Within, Galti Se Mistake Ho Gayi and Gandhi Ki Zameen Par. Sunil Prem Vyas is best known for portraying 17 characters in his debut movie 'The Artist Within'. His film Take It Easy received Dadsaheb Phalke Janm Bhoomi Puruskaar at Nasik International Film Festival 2016.

He has been a visiting faculty for Dramatics and Film Direction at Rai University. Apart from being a versatile film maker, Vyas is a licensed paragliding pilot too.

Early and personal life

Sunil was born in Mumbai and grew up in Haryana. He completed his graduation in Physics from Mumbai University. During this period, he worked with theatre groups like Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA), Sangeet Kala Kendra, Ank, Natya Shala, Bhoomika and Urdu Kala Academy. Sunil received a Diploma in Film Acting from Roshan Taneja School of Acting, Mumbai.

Career in theatre and television

Sunil started at a young age with theatre acting and direction. At 17, he founded his theatre group, Darpan Theatre Arts (DTA). Sunil has acted in 27 plays, scripted 11, translated 2 and directed 18. Hum Nahi Sudhreinge has been his most popular play to date. The play Kiss kiss Ko Pyar Karoon directed by Sunil Prem Vyas was produced by Atul Agnihotri and its title track was composed by renowned music directors Sajid–Wajid.

The television series Raaz was Sunil’s first television break along with Nirmal Pandey. Tum Kya Jaano Preet, Mission Fateh and Crime Patrol were other TV shows wherein Sunil played the lead characters. Sunil has acted in eight television series and scripted five.

Filmography

The Artist Within was his debut movie as a film maker, wherein two actors portray 22 characters in one night story. Seventeen of these characters have been portrayed by Sunil himself. The film Abhishapt wherein he starred with Vasundhara Das and Dilshad Patel, received good reviews at East End Film Festival. His notable work as an actor and film maker is seen in his one take movie Gandhi Ki Zameen Par, wherein he portrays the lead protagonist as a journalist caught in communal riots.

His first mainstream Bollywood film, Take It Easy, which starred Dipannita Sharma, Rajendranath Zutshi, Vikram Gokhale, Virendra Saxena and Joy Sengupta, has been written, edited and directed by Sunil. The film focused on the parental and academic pressure on children in metropolitan cities. Take It Easy has been fairly appreciated by audience as well as by critics. Sunil also wrote lyrics of two songs for the film.
