Suikoden World
The Suikoden series of games is quite unique compared to most other popular RPG series in that all the games are all set in different parts of the same world. Each game typically only takes place in one small geographic area with much of the rest of the world shrouded in mystery, other countries are often mentioned however both in the backstories of the characters and often within the story of the game itself. No official map of the suikoden world exists however due to the many small bits of information released within the series as it goes on there have been many fan attempts at making a map of the world however as a new game is released these are often proven to be wrong.
The nations seen in the Suikoden world so far are:
- Scarlet Moon Empire/Toran Republic : A medium sized country based around Lake Toran, the first game entirely takes place here.
- Jowston City-States/Dunan Republic : The nation of Jousten has always been known to be somewhere to the north of Toran over some almost impassible 'Badlands due to its mention in the first game.
- Highland Kingdom/Dunan Republic : A relatively minor nation located north of Jousten, first mentioned in Suikoden 2. After the end of Suikoden 2 it ceases to exist joining the Dunan Republic.
- Grasslands Federation : Mentioned in Suikoden 2 as lying somewhere to the west of Tinto. Together with Harmonia post Suikoden 2 the first major map creation attempts took place. The Grasslands were originally seen as a far vaster, emptier area then they actually were. Most of Suikoden 3 takes place here.
- Zexen : A small nation to the west of the Grasslands.
- Holy Harmonia : The superpower of the Suikoden world is the vast kingdom of Harmonia that lies in the far (known) north of the world. Harmonia has been the source of much annoyance in trying to pin down a map of the suikoden world due to the somewhat unusual borders it has in Suikoden 3. It is still somewhat a mystery due to a few border cities being all that has been seen of it, with every new Suikoden game fans expect the next one to be set here however such a game has yet to appear.
- Island Nations : The Island Nations have been mentioned since Suikoden 1 however they were only seen in Suikoden 4. Since Suikoden 3 they were known to lie somewhere to the south (prior to that they were believed to be in the east as a Japan analogue. They were also originally believed to be a far vaster, more important place consisting of many nations however in Suikoden 4 this was dispelled somewhat.
- Gaien Dukedom : A largely unknown part of the Suikoden world that lies to the west of the island nations and at the start of Suikoden 4 owned some of them. It has never been actually seen however official konami artwork show it to be a large island to the west of the island nations proper.
- Kooluk Empire : Despite lying on the southern border of the Scarlet Moon Empire it was never mentioned in the first game which caused much confusion and argument amongst Suikoden fans. It was later revealed in Suikoden Tactics that it collapsed not long after the events of Suikoden 4 (100 years before the first game) so nothing of note did lie on the southern border of scarlet moon by the time of the liberation army.
- Falena Queendom : Prior to Suikoden 5 Falena was as big an enigma as Harmonia amongst the Suikoden fan community. It was originally believed to lie in the place of Kooluk however with Suikoden 4 this opinion dropped off in popularity and with Suikoden Tactics was totally destroyed. It was then believed to lie to the south of the island nations- where it actually does lie.
- Kanakan : Commonly mentioned but never actually seen in the series. Oppinions over the location of Kanakan are varied, many see it as a small island somewhere around Toran/Dunan. Others see it as Suikoden's true far eastern analogue.
- Nameless Lands : Only mentioned rarely in Suikoden 3 it is said to lie to the north of Zexen- where Harmonia is known to be. It is roughly pencilled in on many maps as being somewhere along Harmonia's west coast or even to the north west of Harmonia. It is believed to actually be many different nations which are not actually called the Nameless Lands.
- Zelant kingdom : No Information
- Armes kingdom : location south of Falena , ever had a confllict with Falena Queendom
- Nagarea theocracy : location south of Falena
- Tinto Republic : The Tinto Republic is a new nation created after the plotline of Suikoden 2. Following the formation of Dunan, Gustav Pendragon sought independence and broke away from Jowston. Gustav has been the President of Tinto ever since.
