Suihasu-ryū (水蓮流) meaning "water lotus school", is a traditional school koryu japanese martial art, founded by Shindou Hiroshi(神童仁志,1532-1621)in late Muromachi era(1562), its a system based on both religion revelation, such as by his studying under musha shugyo.
History
Under the age of 17 eyers Shindou Hiroshi start his musha shugyo, he stood traveling over japan for 10 years, in his way he meet Tsukahara Bokuden, great swordsmanship, with who he stood for a year and a half learning the ways of sword, then again in the road looking for the true meaning of bushido he meet as well Yagyu Muneyoshi and with him took classes with Kamiizumi Ise-no-Kami Nobutsuna for 3 years, finishing this he traveled back to his lands in Kyūshū.When he was back to his lands he moved to Arahirayama where he stay meditating and treinig every day for 2 years, says the legend that seven tengus who lived in Arahirayama appear to him, and tough him the secrets os the art.
Suihasu ryu and Tokugawa shogunate
The Shindou clan was a small bushi clan of Hyuga, actual miyazaki, they say to have helped the very first emperor(神武天皇 Jinmu Tennō) serving him with loyalty and honor, and that the emperor gave them the secret mission to serve by protectors of the Japanese people, by given then a document called nichinoisho.It is said that when Tokugawa Ieyasu wan the sekigahara battle, Shindou Hiroshi meet him and gave him bouth the nichinoisho and the kojiki, that was in the hands of his family.Tokugawa Ieyasu understanding the meaning of the documents create a new post, called shometsuki, in whit the Shindou clan served until the Meiji Restoration.
