Subhashree Panda, also known as Mili Panda, is an Indian National Congress (INC) politician from Odisha. She contested the 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly election as an INC candidate from the Ranpur Assembly constituency.
Early life and background
Panda came into prominence in Odisha after being associated with left-wing extremism through her husband, former Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda. She was acquitted in several cases after spending time in jail, and later entered mainstream politics.
Personal life
She is married to Sabyasachi Panda, the noted former Maoist leader her father-in-law is Ramesh Chandra Panda, a former legislator from Ranpur.
Legal issues / controversies
Earlier in the 2010s Subhashree (Mili) had been arrested in cases related to alleged links with left-wing extremism and was reported to have been imprisoned and later released/acquitted in some matters; courts have framed charges in some other matters as reported by regional media.
Political career
In March 2014, she made her political debut by joining the Ama Odisha Party (AOP) and filed her nomination from the Ranpur Assembly constituency.
She later joined the Indian National Congress and contested the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections from Ranpur, where she polled 9,215 votes (6.16% of the total).
