Stony Brook University Graduate Program in Public Health
The Graduate Program in Public Health at Stony Brook University is a newly accredited public health program, recognized by the Council on Education for Public Health. It is the only public health graduate program on Long Island, New York. The Program leads to the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree; the combined BS/MPH with the Department Of Applied Mathematics and Statistics; the combined MBA/MPH; and the concurrent MD/MPH and DDS/MPH. The MPH degree May Be in one of three concentrations: Community Health, Evaluative Sciences, and Public Practice. The Program contributes to the PhD in Population Health and Clinical Outcomes Research, which was approved by the State University of New York (SUNY) and The New York State Department of Education in 2008. Admissions to the Graduate Program in Public Health is highly competitive, and the school currently enrolls only 25 to 30 students per year. Consistent with the traditions of public health and with recent Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations for public health education, the Program advocates a population health approach to public health.
