Steven Fisher (diplomat)

Steven Fisher (born 1965) is a British diplomat who is currently serving as the British Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Before his current post he also served as the Deputy Ambassador of Venezuela and Hungary.

Early Life and Education

Steven Fisher was born in Tiddington, Warwickshire just outside Stratford in the heart of central England. His father Dennis Fisher is a retired Police Detective. Steven attended boarding school at Warwick.

After school, Steven attended University at Oxford where he studied Modern History and Spanish. After he graduated from Oxford University, he worked for Andersen Consulting for five years.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Steven quit his job in 1992 and the year after that, he joined the Foreign Office in London. His first overseas post came in 1995, when he was posted to Singapore. After working there for three years he returned to England to work until 2002, when he was posted to Venezuela to work as the Deputy Ambassador. He served another three years there until in 2006 he moved again, this time to Hungary. It was there that him and his wife split up. She moved back to England and he was posted, for the first time, as the ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. He has been working there for a little over a year.

Personal life

Steven was born to Janet and Dennis Fisher who now live in Cubbington (near Leamington Spa). He married his wife, Linda in 1990 and the couple lived in Buckinghamshire until moving to Singapore. The couple have three children, George (born in 1993), Max (born in 1995) and Bertie (born in 1997). Max and Bertie were born in Singapore whilst George was born before the family moved to Singapore.

Steven was the subject of several occurrences of marriage infidelity during his 21-year marriage. He had affairs in each of the three overseas posting where he was accompanied by his wife. Whilst in Hungary, Steven had an affair with a work colleague (named Kriszta Fogarasi). His wife filed for divorce. A story was published in the Daily Mail AbOUT this occurrence. As of 2011, the couple are still married by law but officially separated in July 2008. Steven is currently living with Kriszta in the Dominican Republic.
