Steve Sauerberg
Dr. Steve Sauerberg (born April 3, 1953) was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate election in Illinois, 2008.
Early Life and Education
Sauerberg is a native of Berwyn, Illinois, and was raised in LaGrange. According to his campaign website, Sauerberg's father was a local pharmacist who owned three pharmacies.1
After graduating Lyons Township High School, he attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He was admitted to Rush Medical after just three years of undergraduate work. He completed his last year of undergraduate work and his first year of medical school in a special program designed by Rush Medical College at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. He then went on to Rush Medical College where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society after completion of his medical studies.
Professional career
Sauerberg has been a family practitioner in Chicago's western suburbs for the last twenty-five years. In 1985, he started his own practice and continues to run it today. His first office, a solo practice, was in Western Springs, Illinois. Over the next 23 years the practice developed into The Family Medical Center of La Grange which is composed of five family physicians and one physician assistant.
Candidacy and Campaign
Sauerberg officially announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination on August 1, 2007 at a press conference in Chicago's Federal Plaza. He defeated opponents Andy Martin and Mike Psak in The Primary election on February 5, 2008.
On 4 November 2008, incumbent U.S. Senator [...] Durbin defeated Sauerberg with 2,843,991 votes to Sauerberg's 1,476,083 votes.
