Early life and education
Hunsicker graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.
Television news and volunteer service
Hunsicker worked for 15 years within television news management at stations owned by Freedom Communications. He served as the news director for WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and later as the executive news director for WPEC in West Palm Beach, Florida.
In May 2007, Hunsicker resigned from television news to join the Peace Corps, volunteering in Tonga, where community initiatives intersected with local venues such as the Neiafu Market. Following volunteer service, work continued as a regional recruiter for the Peace Corps.
Documentary production and programming
In 2015, Hunsicker partnered with director Roberto Pazos to executive produce Peruanos en el Mundo (Peruvians Around the World), a weekly travel documentary series profiling stories of the international Peruvian diaspora. The program premiered on Sur Perú TV and was later broadcast nationally on TV Perú from 2018 to 2020. In April 2018, CNN en Español featured the series in a dedicated segment highlighting immigrant narrative profiles.
Hunsicker co-founded and serves as the festival producer of Filmed in Peru, an annual film festival showcasing contemporary Peruvian cinema across New York City, Stamford, Connecticut, Miami, and Long Island. The festival collaborates with regional cultural organizations, including the Peruvian American Cultural Center of the Arts (PACCA), to host community screenings and present audience selection awards. In 2026, he joined the programming committee for Miami Dade College's 43rd annual Miami Film Festival as a specialist programmer for Peruvian cinema.
In 2024, Hunsicker co-wrote, co-cinematographed, and executive produce The Gringa & the Musician (La Gringa y el Músico), a feature true-crime documentary film. The film details a four-year investigation into the 2008 murder of German environmentalist Aune Hartmann near Lake Titicaca and examines police infrastructure within Peru and Bolivia. The film premiered at the Amazon Film Festival in Pucallpa and was selected for the Ibero-American Film Festival in Miami, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and screenings in Karlsruhe, Germany. In November 2025, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture awarded the production 100,000 Peruvian Soles in distribution subsidies, citing cultural relevance.
