Splat (game)

Splat is a children's game often first learned in junior school.

Basic concept

A group of children stand in a circle, facing inward, while another child, the 'shooter' or 'splatter' or 'splatmaster', stand in the middle of the circle facing the rest of the group. The 'splatmaster' points his fingers at someone in the circle, and shouts Splat, as if shooting them with a gun. The player aimed at must duck, and the players either side must turn and face and shout Splat at each other. The last one to shout Splat is eliminated. The game continues thus until there are two remaining players, who must battle out in a Mexican standoff, in which they stand back-to-back and take a step forward every time something of a certain group (e.g. a fruit) is shouted, and turn and shoot when something of a different group (i.e. a vegetable) is shouted. The first person to be shot loses, with the other becoming new Splatmaster. Players can also get eliminated if shooting when not meant to.
