Spin Spin The Dogs
Spin Spin The Dogs is a five piece band based in Nottingham in the United Kingdom. They formed in February of 2003 after its core members Vincent Larkin, Dean Hinks and John Wilson began making music in the basement of their shared house. Cyriel Diels and James Smith were later recruited on tenor saxophone and drums respectively.
The group draw from an eccentric mix of influences, the most observable probably being The Contortions, James Brown and Mancunian pub-rockers The Fall.
Career
The group have played in every major English City, sharing billings with bands such as The Futureheads, The Fall, Mike Watt from Minutemen, Need New Body and Noxagt. In December 2004 they played a sold-out show at Nottingham Trent University with Providence's Lightning Bolt. Following the success of their live performances the group recorded its 10 inch debut EP named Cats! in a Hackney pub basement during the summer of 2005. They did it with Rory Atwell from the London band Test Icicles for Fancy Paradise Records, the EP was taken by Rough Trade Records.
The record release party was characteristically incongruous as it was the last show for some time, following the move of a key member to South Australia. The band is currently on hiatus.
Spin Spin The Dogs is one of a number of bands formed in the thriving independent music scene of Nottingham, which in recent years has also produced those such as Wolves of Greece!, Amusement Parks on Fire, Souvaris, The Hellset Orchestra, Lords and Designer Babies. The city is also home to influential independent labels and promoters such as Gringo Records.
