Songr is a freeware application used to search and download music. It was created by Andrea Martinelli. It is currently available in 23 languages.
Currently, the software works only for Microsoft Windows. Linux and Mac versions are aimed to be distributed by other developers.
History
The first version of Songr was released on September 23, 2009. It continues to receive updates constantly, addressing problems in older versions or changing the way it uses the search engines, since some change their HTML structure. The latest stable release of Songr is 1.9.25.
Songr's official web site was Songr.co.cc, but it was later moved to a Google Site. After some time, the unused, original web site was, marked as dangerous in some web browsers, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, which by entering the web page, warned the user AbOUT malware activity and recommended not proceeding. However, now the old web page redirects to the new one.
Features
The main window of Songr provides a simple, minimalist interface with a search box. It has four types of search: "Single tracks" which provides a list of songs matching the title searched, "Single track (automatic)" which automatically downloads the best result found for the searched song, "Artist" which displays information from Wikipedia about the artist searched, along with a media player of the artist's songs (according to the software, it is in beta stage), and "Full albums", which presents a list of albums matching the title searched, normally in ZIP or RAR formats. Songr also provides a menu item to download videos from Youtube, and optionally extracting the audio from them.
To search for the music, Songr searches the string entered in various search engines. After searching, Songr provides the results in the interface, and by double clicking the item in the list it can be played; by clicking the "Save" button on top, or right clicking and selecting Download, the song May Be downloaded to the user's hard drive.
Songr provides an optional "Search by lyrics" area, which searches in Bing the string entered and provides a list of possible songs, and by double clicking one, it searches for the song in its "Single tracks" search.
Songr allows to choose in which engines it will search for music, on the "Settings" window. It offers other settings as well, and includes the option to change the application's language. It includes the option to send anonymous data to The Developers to improve Songr, but this option is disabled by default.
Songr contains a menu to access buying music in different web sites, such as Amazon.com and Zune.
Reception

A reviewer stated that the program was "very easy to use" among other pros, but criticized that downloads could not be resumed if paused, and that it was impossible to choose between the search engines; however, an update of the application made this possible. The user reviews' score for Songr is 9/10.
