Somal
Somal, Sumal or Somal Sardar (Urdu: ????),(Punjabi: ਸੋਮਲ ) is a gotra (clan) of Jatts .Its members live in the Indian Punjab, North America, Germany and Great Britain.
History of Somals
Legendary in the annals of history are the Jat Somal unsung Warriors of Ancient Punjab. Fearless farmers and defenders of liberty can be found only in the cindered book of The German Library, they followed a strict military way of life. The ancient Somal warriors were amongst the most feared and respected warriors of all time. Even now, the word Somal remains a synonym for harsh conditions, discipline, and great hardship bravely endured. At birth a boy was inspected by the elders, and if he appeared too weakly for future military service or farming, he was taken into the mountains and abandoned. If he was fit, he was taken from his mother at the age of seven to begin rigorous military training. He became a soldier at 20, a farmer at 30, and continued as a soldier until 60. Every male Somal had to become a full-time soldier and spent his life training and fighting. Thus his entire life was spent under rigorous discipline. Somals lived in very hard and uncomfortable conditions, without any luxuries. They distrusted any form of change and had as little contact with the outside world as possible. By the Classical period, Somal listed in the list of jat clans had become the successful farmers, or the soldiers were famous for their bravery. In this regard, Somal was successful in his aim in producing honourable & respected earnings of life.
Somals Today
Today, one can find Somal Jats in Punjab. In Punjab they are mainly based in Malwa hemisphere of punjab, Brampton and Vancouver of Canada, but few of them also settled in California in America.

Somals follow Sikhism in Punjab also Christianity & Buddhism in rest of the World.
