Sockets CDR
Sockets CDR is a label based in Washington, DC that releases CDRs of mostly (but not always) DC-area experimental music groups. Past releases have included music by The Cutest Puppy in the World, Kohoutek, Slim Castle, Na, Plain Lace, Church Clothes, Myo, Hand-Fed Babies, and Zs, among many others. Sockets' first proper CD release was A Little Hungry by The Caution Curves in 2006. The label also specializes in Audio Zines -- compilations meant to represent the various ways in which communities collect, produce, perform and create sound. This project aims to document these aural artifacts, but also to celebrate the diversity in approaches and results of local Washington, DC experimental musicians and artists. Sockets releases have been reviewed in The Wire (magazine), Pitchfork Media, Ptolemaic Terrascope, Arthur Magazine, and other notable experimental music media sources. Sockets artists have also been noted as important parts of the Washington, DC experimental music scene by The Washington Post1, Washington City Paper, and On Tap Magazine2.
