Society for Classical Reform Judaism

The Society for Classical Reform Judaism was formed in 2008 by synagogues that had been connected with the American Council for Judaism to work to advance their views of Judaism as a universal religion and assertion that religion is at the heart of Jewishness. While they have moved away from full rejection of Jewish peoplehood and are not anti-Zionist to the point of favoring Israel's destruction, they reject any religious meaning or importance of the modern state of Israel.

The initial executive director was Howard A. Berman. The initially synagogues were located in Kansas City, Boston, New Orleans and Savannah.

The society also strongly supports services in English accompanied by organ and choir. They also work against more Hebrew in services. They also reject all attempts to be kosher in diet and dismiss any attempt at Sabbath observance.

By mid 2009 the movement had 50 rabbis on its advisory board.
