SMKBUD (4) is the fourth government school in the Bandar Utama area, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is adjacent to the townships of Mutiara Damansara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun and a few other small townships connected to the three major townships.
History
Early days
The school started in 1.12.2001, with only 132 students of Form 1 and Remove. As of 2007, the student,s enrolment is around 1,300 students. As of 2006, its first SPM test was taken by four classes of Form Five students. The first school Headmistress was Liu Ling Ling, a Chinese woman who portrayed liberal connections with other schools, including private schools like Sri KDU.
2007
The school has far changed from its starting on 2002, five years later it is one of the most famous government school in the district, and presumably in the Selangor state as well, most notably on its achievements in academics as well as sports. Fences reinforced, supportive parents donating, students colloborating, school upgraded and repaired, the school remained a very good and healthy environment for its students, though of course not without a little glitch, notably some gangsters that are noted for smoking outside the school, skipping classes, dating with women counterparts of them in secluded school areas, which are blocked-off stairs, and abandoned toilets.
Achievements
Academics
The school has a good number of straight-A's students, and a large sum of smart students as well, and AbOUT as many average-scoring students. The school had about 30-40% of non-smart student variety, which is but not racistly, gangsters, and those with a slight defunct in learning ability, which is to say mostly Indians, and a few Malays, as well as two or three Chinese students in its lower classes.
Sports
The school had risen as a star as its cheerleader's team Blitzerz won in one of the top three finalists in the Cheer 2006 event in which participating teams nationwide converged on to Stadium Bukit Jalil, Shah Alam, which is Malaysia's largest indoor/outdoor stadium. However, in Cheer '07, the team was presented a 'Best Supporters', which indicated that the spectators from the school supporting Blitzerz were the one which actually won, not the team. This arose to a school joke and taunting of the members of the team by some incoherent students. The school had also taken part in many other events, such as hockey, football, badminton, ping pong and tennis.
Others
The school had a select group of students dubbed 'Pengawas ICT' or 'ICT Prefects', which maintain the school's computer, website, servers, and other IT-related stuff. The school's ICT Prefects team won the 'Best School Website Award' in the state-level rounds. The school also had yearly tests from The New South Wales University,Australia. The test can be sat for upon a small fee, and the subjects offered were English, Mathematics, and Science. The results are presented during Monday school assembly, to those who had scored Distinction, High Distinction, or those who had taken tests for higher grade levels. The most notably awarded are 'Tan Juan', who won an award equivalent to a very very high level of his Mathematics ability, and 'Natalie Tan Yuen Yuen', who was in Form 3 but succeeded with High Distinction for Form 6 English Tests. Also, the school had a yearly Scrabble competition, in which a Small number of students take part on.
Society
The students
The students are streamed to their respective classes accordingly, based on their academic achievements, behaviour & co-curiculum achievements. The best of them in the First Class, following up to the lower classes. The streaming system is fair to all students without racist taunts.
Teachers and faculty
The School Office have a fleet of accomplished individuals, which are the Headmistress, and a staff of Ex-Officios, which are Assistant Headmistress, Head of Student Affairs, and Head of Corriculum Department. Also in the office are clerks handling all the paperwork and calls and data-recording for the school. The Teaching Faculty have a batch of over 50 teachers, which included the Head of Discipline and other subjectory heads. Although academic-wise the teachers are very good indeed, behaviour wise the teachers are not in favour of the students in school, due to teachers constantly nagging, a truckload of homework and English-blind teachers. However, once in a while the students may overrate a teacher because of his/her attractiveness.
Activities
Throughout the year, the school had a lot of activities, one of each type a compulsory for each students. A student may join Scouts, Cadets, Police/Fire Brigade Cadets, Girl Guides or the First Aid Group for his 'Uniformal Society', An academic subject club like English Club, or other societies like Drama Club, Recycling Club and Anti-Drugs Campaign Club for his 'Clubs/Society' and maybe Football, Basketball, Softball or many others for his 'Sports Clubs'. So far to date, the school offers professional coaches to a few exotic and interesting clubs now. One may learn to be a ninja in Shinobi, or learn martial arts with Taekwondo, Wushudao or Karate, play Golf in the local driving range or in the Golf Course, and many others.
Controversy
Many parents argue that their childs's favorite co-curricular activity imposes high fees, like Shinobi, Fencing and Japanese Language Club, however it is a questionable act that the fee amount are told on the first day of club meeting to inform parents and students and let them think wether to join or not.
