Smithers quality assessments
Smithers Quality Assessments (aka SQA) provides accredited, independent certification of quality and environmental management systems to internationally recognized standards such as ISO 9001 (for quality) and ISO 14001 (for environmental).
An analogy: Certified Public Accountants (CPA's) provide independent auditing and certification of financial systems to assure stakeholders that the accounting practices of an organization comply with applicable laws and regulations and that the published financial reports are accurate. Certification/Registration Bodies such as Smithers Quality Assessments (SQA) provide auditing of the quality and environmental management systems. They do not audit product or pollution outputs. They do audit the management practices that are associated with meeting customer requirements (quality) and protecting the environment. Just as CPA's provide assurance that the financial aspects of an organization meet established and recognized requirements, so do SQA auditors provide assurance that products and services are being produced and executed in such a manner that customers expectations will be met (defect free, on-time delivery) or, in the case of environmental issues, that the environment is being protected. SQA provides certification for the quality standards: ISO 9001, a standard that is applicable to any type of business; ISO/TS 16949, which is concerned with automotive requirements; and AS9100, which is concerned with aerospace (aircraft) requirements. SQA also provides certification for one environmental standard: ISO 14001.
