Sleepy Hollow (band)

Sleepy Hollow was a Gothic Rock band formed in San Diego, California in the early 1990s.

Biography

Sleepy Hollow had been around since early 1992. A vision of Derek Jones, the front man who sang and wrote all of the songs. Mark Haemmerle joined him shortly after the dissolution of Winter Winds (band), another band he was in before Sleepy Hollow.

They had unsuccessfully tried out several bass players, and then asked Josh Bourke (who played keyboards in Winter Winds (band)), who agreed to play bass.

After they had rehearsed a few weeks, they started playing coffee houses and then later clubs like Therapy, Mass, and Clubbed to Death.

They released their first cassete EP of two songs in 1993. This was titled "The Widow" and included "The Widow" and "Vanish" on one side and remixes of those songs on the other side. This was a limited-EDition release, as a vinyl release was played but never sufaced.

Their first full-length release was 1994's self-titled "Sleepy Hollow." It was distributed at their shows for promotion. They put the songs from the cassette on the album, but they re-recorded them. This album was recorded in Clairemont, California at Van Orbison's house. He reportedly was accommodating to them, but hurried the mixing before leaving to Sweden. So the band was not completely happy with this release.

Their next release was done on 4-track and released in 1996 as demos called the "Vital Sign" EP. They were happier with this release since they did it themselves, but the quality of four-track couldn't match that of 16-track digital recording.

Mark had become frustrated from not playing shows for a while, and since he had a decent job he decided to invest in a 64-track digital recorder for the band. Afterwards, they didn't have to worry AbOUT studio cost and would be able to have full control of their songs. Their second full-length release produced, mixed, and engineered by the band was titled "Night Time Stories," released in October 1996. The music had changed more towards the industrial experimental style, but they still managed to obtain their Gothic roots.

After taking a break for a while, they came back with many shows in early 1997, this time with a live drummer in The New lineup, to add to the drum machine.

Their newest release titled "Love Affair", a combination of demos, acoustic, remixes, and live versions of songs. They released the 1997 remix of "Legacy" and "Star Crash Records: Volume One."

Sleepy Hollow then took a four-year break and re-formed with a short-lived lineup.

Sleepy Hollow is now defunct, and all members have gone on to form other projects.
