Skate (musician)
Skate (born Nathan Montgomery Maloley; January 17, 1995) is an American rapper and hip hop artist from Omaha, Nebraska. He posted his first Vine on March 24, 2013, and has since pursued a career in music, performing with artists such as Jack & Jack, Los, and others. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Personal life
Skate grew up in Omaha with an early passion for both basketball and music. As a sophomore in high school, Skate remembers attending a Wiz Khalifa concert, and ever since then being inspired to produce music under the same genre.
Career
Music
Prior to his pursuit as a solo artist, Skate, alongside artist and internet personality Sammy Wilk, was apart of the duo Sammy & Skate. They released their debut single Party People in November 2014, and their second single Wassup in the following year. In July 2015, Skate was chosen to premiere his debut original song Little Bit on the horror feature film The Chosen featuring YouTube star Kian Lawley and actress Elizabeth Keener. On April 20, Skate released his first mixtape Twenty Fifteen, where he premiered a variety of unreleased original tracks including I Have A Dream and For You. In August 2015, Skate was nominated by the Teen Choice Awards under the 'Next Best Thing' category.
Skate cites artists including Bruno Mars, Bob Marley, and Mac Miller as a few of his primary influences. He also prides himself on being an independent artist, having released all of his music without the signing of a major label.
