Six Mile Grove the Band
Six Mile Grove recorded their first album A Day’s Work with Lou Whitney at The Studio in Springfield, MO in 1997. Lou became an immediate mentor. A year later SMG recorded Long Distance Everything at Oar Fin Records in Minneapolis, MN. As their popularity increased in the Midwest music scene and throughout college campuses nation-wide, their style became more defined. Their third album Friction was recorded in 2000 at The Studio in Springfield. It sold 3,500 copies and received national attention on the college music charts. “Friction is the direct result of the maturity that comes from endless touring and knowing what your audience wants to hear” (New Artist Direct). In March 2005, SMG self-released their latest album titled Bumper Crop. Rob Van Alstyne of Pulse magazine called the album: “Honest, Real, Soulful, guitar-based, country inflected rock that’s not snide or smarmy or smartass,” and called the band “four regular guys with extra heart, soul and true grit.” After a fortuitous string of events, Six Mile Grove has found themselves as the opening act and backing band for Bob Wootton, Johnny Cash’s guitar player of 30 years. They have shared a stage with The Kentucky Headhunters, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Texas rock band Slobberbone. Six Mile Grove is rooted in the energy of American rock and the simplicity of classic country music, delivered with pure farm boy charm.
