Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Fire Department

The Sister Bay and Liberty Grove Fire Department (SBLGFD) is located in Door County, Wisconsin. The Fire Department covers AbOUT of land for both the Village of Sister Bay and the Township of Liberty Grove. SBLGFD is responsible for fire and rescue calls within the jursdiction. The SBLGFD also has trained Emergency Medical Responders who respond to medical calls in the town and village. The fire department operates with two stations. The north fire station or the Ellison Bay station is on STH 42 north of Ellison Bay in the Town of Liberty Grove. The south station or the Sister Bay station is located on Mill Road in the Village of Sister Bay.

• The department has one fire chief who oversees both fire stations and the medical first responders. • Two assistant fire chiefs • Four captains • Six lieutenants • The department as of December 2010 has thirty three members. There are twenty seven members that are also medical first responders.

Apparatus and Operations

South Station Engine 8 is a 2000 Saulsbury Spartan pumper

Ladder 21 is a 1985 Pierce Arrow pumper with a 1000 GPM pump, 400-gallon tank and a 50’ Tele-squirt.

Brush 20 is a 1988 Ford F-350 pickup chassis with a slide in brush fire unit. The chassis for this unit was purchased through donations and fund drives.

Hose company 25 operates a 1997 Saulsbury / Navistar 4900 all wheel drive water supply truck.

Hose 25 is equipped with a 1250 GPM front mount hale pump and a Hannay Large Diameter Hose reel with of Angus LDH (large diameter hose).

Tanker 12 is a 1500-gallon tanker on a International chassis. This tank was originally installed on an Ex-Door County Highway plow truck chassis. The current chassis was purchased in 1993 with all funds for the chassis being provided by donations and fund-drives.

Rescue 12 is a Salsbury rescue on a Mack Chassis.

North Station Engine 6 2008 Crimson Pumper Tanker

Engine 7- is a 1993 Emergency One Hush rescue pumper with a 1500 GPM pump and a 500-gallon tank.

Brush 19- 1999 F-550 Ford chassis brush truck

Fire Inspections

The Sister Bay & Liberty Grove fire inspector is a member of the department, conducts the fire inspections in the fire district.

History

April 1, 1930 - First meeting of Village board with a option to provide fire protection.

April 21, 1932 - First meeting with the Town where they agree to pay for a portion of the cost with added coverage for the town

Public Events

Marina Fest is held in Sister Bay on Saturday of every Labor Day weekend. The department hosts a pancake breakfast in the morning and sells brats, burgers, and corn in the afternoon and evening. This is one of the major fundraising efforts for the department every year.

Fire prevention is also conducted by the members of the fire department. The department works jointly with the other area fire departments.

The department offers free smoke detectors and batteries to the residents of the district.
