Simon Sturgis

Simon Sturgis AADip RIBA is an English architect practising in London. He is managing director of Sturgis Associates LLP. He was born in London in 1955, and was schooled initially in the UK and later until 1972 at Diocesan College in Cape Town, South Africa. He studied Architecture at Cape Town University before moving to London's Architectural Association School of Architecture where he gained his Diploma in Architecture in 1978. He work from 1979 to 1991 for Terry Farrell and Partners and from 1987 was Design Director. Whilst working for Terry Farrell he was design director for Embankment Place over Charing Cross Station.

In 1991 Simon Sturgis formed Sturgis and Company Architects Ltd which became Sturgis Associates LLP in 2005. He has completed private house projects for Andrew Lloyd Webber and film director Hugh Hudson. His most significant recent projects are Fleetway House in the City of London for developer Tishman Speyer Properties and 101 New Cavendish Street in London's West End for developer CORE. The work of Sturgis predominantly involves the reuse of buildings.

Simon Sturgis together with Gareth Roberts have developed 'carbon profiling' a method for determining the embodied carbon in construction. See Architects Journal 26.03.09, 'Sustainability in Practice- Carbon Profiling". Sturgis is a member of the UK India Business Council and is a member of the International Committee of the British Council for Offices. Sturgis Associates have had projects published in a number of UK and International Architectural Journals, and are an award winning practice.
