SIGNAL 30
SIGNAL 30 is an American hard rock band from Parma, Ohio. Their style combines elements of heavy metal, hard rock, stoner rock, doom metal, grunge and hardcore. Their Early Material was more classic heavy metal oriented, but over the years a strong groove and stoner element was incorporated into their songs.
History
The band was founded in late 1993 and performaed as Necrobiosis, a name that was used after merging with an earlier death metal band. Singer Pat Butler and bassist Steve Callahan joined drummer Ross Cintula and guitarist Tom Sahl. Eventually Sahl left to pursue his death metal leanings. Butler's high school friend Scott Riba took over on 2nd guitar as Butler played lead. The band name was changed to SIGNAL 30 in 1995 in reference to the popular Driver's Education film. The band played at all of the popular Cleveland, OH area concert clubs of the day including Peabody's Downunder, The Odeon, The Euclid Tavern, the Phantasy Nite Club, the Symposium, the Cleveland Agora Ballroom and the original Grog Shop. One of their earliest gigs was as an opener for Cleveland metal band Hatrix at the Red Eye Rock Club. The band entered Digitrax studios in late 1996 in response to their growing fanbase. The band's first and only album was released in 1997, titled "Self Titled Debut". Their biggest performance was as a support act for the Spudmonsters farewell show in early 1998. SIGNAL 30 disbanded in late 1998 as tensions grew amongst band members. An official notice was posted on the band's website by Butler.
Butler and Cintula started jamming again in 2001, and they eventually asked Callahan (former Shuteye & Amps II Eleven, also currently in Welcome to Bangkok & Weener) to come on board and re-start SIGNAL 30. Curt Briscar (former Girth & Pit, current Voodoo Brother) was recruited on bass guitar as Callahan switched to his natural instrument, lead guitar. The '03 Comeback Special took place in front of a full house at the Hi-Fi Club on Cleveland's westside. In late 2007, Briscar was asked to leave the band because of stylistic differences, and Don Kusnerik, a longtime friend of the band, was added on bass.
SIGNAL 30 is currently writing and preparing to record their long awaited sophomore effort.
