Sidhra-Rudhra Brahmins are a Gujarati land-owning sub-caste of Brahmin's.

History

In Shri Vayu Yukta Shivshanhita, Narmada Mahatmaya (Written by Maharushi Markendey Muni) Adhyaya No. 333 to 335 describes the Origin of Shri Siddha-Rudhra Bhramins and the Place of Shri Shiddheswar Mahadev. It is a translation of a Book which was written in Sanskrit by Late Shri Ganpatray Narayanshankar Shukal. As per their history they came from Haryana (Ganga) and Punjab (Sarasvati) region and settled near Bhrugukaccha (Bharuch), Ankureshwar (Ankleshwar), Surat and Siddhra-Rudhra (Sajod) and are presently still found in this area. Some land-owning members of this community with Patel surname, are known to have converted to Islam a few centuries ago and became part of the land-owning Vora Patel community of the same area.

Overview

Presently most members of this small community are settled in districts of Bharuch and Surat. They have had a diaspora to many cities in India and some have settled abroad. By profession they are mostly Farmers, Businessmen, Administrators, Doctors and Engineers.
