Sheen Skaiz

Yasheen Ramfol (born 25 May 1989) in Durban, South Africa, better known by his stage name Sheen Skaiz is a South African singer, rapper and songwriter.

Early life

Skaiz was born and grew up in RESERVOIR Hills, Durban and began working on music at age 14 through several music applications before starting his own mixtures of music from mainstream music around the world. While completing his degree in Creative Brand Communications, Ramfol became a DJ in at several night clubs, from there he moved to producing music. Although his aim was to become a record producer and DJ, he decided to become a singer and began to craft his own sound, teaching himself how to sing, and rap.

Career

Skaiz began to release freestyles on social networks which helped him gain some recognition on the underground scene. In 2013 he entered and won the 2013 Jägermeister – Back the Artist competition, earning him a R75000 record deal with South African Music Awards winner Justin De Nobrega. The winning song “Drangs & Brangz" which featured singer Plastic Shadows then received high popularity in Durban and become the official song for the city's Colour Festival. His second song ‘Gusheshe’ which is a remix of Migos featuring Drake’s ‘Versace’ was released soon after. He stated that he decided to remix the song and add a South African twist to it by including the ‘BMW 325is’ aka ‘The Gusheshe' as it is known in the country. Rolling Stone South Africa interviewed Ramfol in April 2014 in which he revealed his plans to release an EP and debut single. In the interview Ramfol stated that he struggled to get noticed in the in industry. He would frequently release mix tapes and freestyles on YouTube and Soundcloud with little or no interest. or A documentary titled "A documentary about a dream coming true" was released later that month in which he speaks about his future music plans and style. South African magazine "Hype" interviewed Ramfol in May 2014, covering his recent plans for his career and the direction in which he plans to take it after winning the competition. In an interview for Project Loud in June 2014, Ramfol revealed his Debut EP will be released in 2014, with each single having its own video shot by his team. Ramfol also stated that while his main dream was to become an internationally recognized DJ, he changed his mind after spending time in a rapping studio.
