Shane McFee
Shane Robert McFee (born January 12, 1978 in Kentfield, CA) is one of the guitarists of the American heavy metal band Backmask. He is also the CEO of Kazrog LLC, a music software, production, and marketing company, and the lead designer behind guitar speaker cabinet simulation software, Recabinet. Shane is the son of Doobie Brothers guitarist John McFee.
Biography
Shane was 13 years old when he began playing guitar. He started college at age 17, as a music major attending Santa Barbara City College for 2 years before transferring to UCSB to finish his Bachelor of Arts in Music. In 2000, Shane graduated and started his primary music project, Backmask, self-producing a full length demo where he played every instrument and provided both melodic and growled vocals. This demo served as a basis for recruiting touring band members, and by 2001, Backmask was playing shows in the Santa Barbara, California area. The band underwent a series of touring lineups, and was in something of an embryonic state until 2005, when Shane decided to stop touring for a year and sharpen his songwriting skills.
In 2006, Shane scrapped all of the pre-existing Backmask material and began writing and recording Backmask's Dark Fiber album. Released in January 2007, the album received critical acclaim and strong sales. A subsequent tour followed the album's release, with the band playing clubs and festivals across Southern California.
In 2008, Shane began to focus his energy on developing version 1.0 of a guitar software product, Recabinet, as well as producing, mixing, and mastering the Sadistic DEEDS...Grotesque Memories album for brutal deathmetal band Bloodsoaked.
Currently, Shane is working on the second full-length Backmask album, and Recabinet 2.0.
