SHAKE YOUR PEACE!

SHAKE YOUR PEACE! is an environementally-conscious "sustainable music band" led by Gabe Dominguez, who plays harmonica and sings. Playing American folk music, the band tours on bicycles and promotes environmental causes. As stated on their website, the band's ultimate goal, inspired by Gandhi's salt march, is "to use it's self reliant and sustainable practices as a means for social revolution."

History

SHAKE YOUR PEACE! started in New York City at New York University in 2004, when Dominguez was a student there. It evolved from an earlier band called Thumpus, which won NYU's battle of the bands and was known for having no songs--they improvised new songs every concert. SHAKE YOUR PEACE!'s New York City lineup consisted of Dominguez, Tom Abbot on mandolin, Cosmo D on cello, and Aaron Fast on trumpet and percussion. The band was later based in Utah (Dominguez's home state) when Dominguez moved to Salt Lake City to co-direct the One World Cafe's urban organic garden. A new lineup was formed, made up of Dominguez and Chris Jacoby on fiddle. The band is currently headquartered in San Francisco.

Current Events

In August 2006, the band released the album Sing It As You Please with Gabe Dominguez on harmonica and vocals, Cosmo D on cello, and Chris Jacoby on fiddle. The album is released under the anti-copyright ShareFare economic paradigm. To support the album, the band embarked on a 600-mile, 31-show bicycle tour of Utah in April 2007. In concert, the band uses an amplifier powered by fans who volunteer to ride on a bike that generates electricity. SHAKE YOUR PEACE! also performed at Brigham Young University's "alternative commencement" in April 2007.
