Shaho Tayeb
Shaho Tayeb (born 2 June 1977) is a Kurdish journalist and broadcast specialist. He is one of the pioneers of Kurdish satellite television and currently serves as the General Manager of Kurdistan24. Shaho Tayeb played a key role in establishing multiple Kurdish broadcast channels, including Kurdistan TV Sulaymaniyah (1992), Kurdistan TV Satellite Channel (1998), and Kurdistan24 (2014). Tayeb currently serves as the General Manager of Kurdistan24, overseeing the channel’s operations, programming, and expansion.
Early life
Tayeb was born in Sulaymaniyah, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. His father worked as a bank employee, but Tayeb developed a passion for photography and videography from an early age. By 1982, he began experimenting as an amateur cameraman, and by 1989, he was actively shooting videos with his father’s equipment.
Professional life
Following the Kurdish uprising of 1991 and the establishment of the Kurdistan Region under the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Tayeb joined the newly founded Kurdistan TV in 1992 as a cameraman and editor.
In 1998, when the KDP decided to create a satellite television channel for the region, Tayeb led a small local technical team to establish the studio, broadcasting system, control room, and master control room. Kurdistan TV became the first television channel in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to broadcast globally. He later contributed to the founding of Kurdistan 24 in 2014 and has worked closely with several notable journalists and media figures, including:
