Journalistic career
Mr. Shahid Malik, who served as a Lahore-based BBC Correspondent from 1994 to 2007, now works as a broadcasting trainer and reports from the region for various radio and TV outlets.
Mr. Malik first joined BBC Urdu in the UK in 1984 as a journalist. He went on to produce the popular bilingual 'English by Radio' series and a weekend 'Question and Answer' programme. This programme was a particular challenge as detailed research was required on subjects ranging from science and technology to literature and history. Later he presented the weekly cultural programme 'Sub Ras' as well as 'Sports Round-Up'. He also hosted the early morning current affairs programme 'Jahan Numa' which today continues to claim a large audience in the sub-continent and parts of the Middle East.
During this period, he took two short breaks from BBC Urdu. In 1987, he worked for Pakistan TV as their London Correspondent and occasional host. In 1991 he worked as a Senior Producer with BBC Radio Leicester where he was responsible for transmissions in English and five Asian languages.
On return to Pakistan Mr. Malik acted as the Resident Editor of an English language daily and has recently headed the local bureau of a well-known private TV channel, supervising their launch in December 2007.
