SFERRA is a luxury linen manufacturer that was founded in Venice, Italy by Gennaro Sferra in 1891.

As the turn of the 20th century approached, Gennaro Sferra left Italy for the United States with his intricate Venetian lace cuffs and collars. He found a following of customers in the grand seaside resorts that once dotted the east coast from Maine to Florida. Gennaro Sferra traveled back and forth between the continents regularly to sell his goods.

In 1905, Gennaro Sferra opened Factory 5007 San Severo, located in Venice, Italy. He traveled back to Venice by steamer twice a year to create new collections of the most luxurious linens, handmade laces and embroideries affluent Americans had ever seen. Then in 1912, Gennaro Sferra moved his company and his family to the United States. He opened a shop on Fifth Avenue in New York City for the exhibition and sale of all kind of Italian hand-made laces. In the 1940s and 1950s, Gennaro Sferra’s two sons, Enrico and Albert, expanded the company's offerings to include the world renowned double damask from Ireland, the finest Alençon laces from France, and the beautiful, intricate embroideries from Belgium and Switzerland.

In 1977, Paul Hooker and George Matouk purchased the company from the Sferra family. With the aid of great advancements in design and production technologies, SFERRA has experienced growth in recent decades as global markets have emerged. George Matouk sold his interest to SFERRA president Paul Hooker in 2006.

In 2001, SFERRA was the first manufacturer to produce 1,000 thread count linens. Their enduring reputation lies in its insistence on the finest materials. Everything begins with first-quality fibers. Using on the natural fibers of linen and long-staple Egyptian cotton, Italian and Western European textile masters apply state-of-the-art technology to spin, dye and finish each individual yarn to the precise specifications and stringent standards required to create fabrics of distinction.

SFERRA operates four business tiers: wholesale, retail, hospitality, and private labeling.
