Seth Speiser
Seth Speiser is an American politician and general contractor serving as the independent mayor of the village of Freeburg, Illinois, since 2013.
Career
In November 2020, Speiser refused to close a restaurant despite receiving a warning from St. Clair County that the business had violated COVID-19 safety protocols by staying open inside.
In December 2022, Speiser, along with son and his neighbor, former Cardinals pitcher Danny Cox, were given citations for poaching by the Illinois Conservation Police.
As of February 2025, Speiser was the president of the Southwest Illinois Council of Mayors and a member of the East-West Gateway Council of Government.
In March 2025, Speiser defended the use of the disability slur "midget" as the mascot for Freeburg Community High School: “Once a Midget always Midget — that's our motto around here. And I think 100% of people agree with me on that issue.”
