Senshido
Senshido ("Way of 1000 Masters") is an eclectic form of reality-based self defense and mixed martial art, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada - created in 1994 by Richard Dimitri.
Senshido is a martial art that is purely geared towards self defence. The Syllabus emphasises simple gross motor skills such as palm strikes, punches, low-line kicks, bites, gouges, slaps, and chokes which are easy for students to remember and perform in a confrontation. However, the curriculum also includes kickboxing and grappling.
As well as simple physical fighting skills, the curriculum places a large emphasis on environmental awareness, verbal de-escalation skills, and the emotional and legal aspects of modern combat.
As explained by founder Richard Dimitri: "Senshido is not a style and doesn’t teach memorization of techniques. Rather than provide technical aspects for people to use in particular situations, we provide analytical skills that will be useful in any situation."
