ScreenConnect

ScreenConnect is a remote desktop software application that provides remote PC support capability for support personnel and organizations. ScreenConnect was developed by Elsinore Technologies in 2008.
Product Overview
A self hosted desktop application that permits users to host the software on their own servers or PC (As of this posting the company does not provide a hosted option). The connection protocol is web based requiring the host to start a meeting and then invite the client to join the meeting. The software provides the standard tools for remote desktop support such as file transfer, session recording, reboot & reconnect, multiple monitor support, but currently does not support a native chat tool or adding other people to the session. The software uses an 256 AES encryption and supports use with MAC, Linux, and Windows PC's.
ScreenConnect is one of a small handful of new products to the remote support market place that are using the self hosted solution option. Currently the industry has supported two models of remote support software tools, the first type are hosted solutions where the solution provider also hosts the support sessions for the user and the client. This model has shown success with companies like Webex, LogMeIn, and TeamViewer utilitzing this model. The other would be direct connections behind a firewall where popular software tools like VNC have become recognized almost as a brand name over the years. However the model of allowing users to host their own solutions is relatively small subsection of this overall larger market of internally used tools and hosted solutions. .
Technology Overview
The ScreenConnect server runs as a set of services on modern version of Microsoft Windows. The server portion requires the .
* The HTTP web service is provided as an ASP.NET application operating on TCP port 8040.

* A SOAP web service running on Windows Communication Foundation tracks active sessions and operates on TCP port 8042, but is not communicated with externally.
ScreenConnect has two clients available targeted based on operating system:
* The .NET client is targeted to Microsoft Windows computers and is activated with ClickOnce.
* The Java client is targeted to OS X and Linux computers and is activated with Java Web Start.
