Say a Prayer (Khanoda song)
"Say A Prayer" was the first of a trio of singles released independently only to radio from American pop singer Khanoda following the demise of the thrash metal band Armed n Dangerous, which he co-founded. The single was later included on his 1998 mock hits collection, klosure. DISPOSABLE KLASSIX AND OTHER POTENTIAL FAILURES (1988 – 1998).
Song history
Say A Prayer was initially released as the lead single from a forthcoming album to be released in the fall of 1989, however recording delays and Khanoda changing his musical direction from blatant pop music to a more alternative influenced sound lead to the song being promoted only to radio.
Khanoda was unaware that the line he had wrote "there was a time when I would miss you, existing just to kiss you" on the song "Say A Prayer" was paraphrasing "does she miss you, existing just to kiss you" as heard in the chorus of "Like The Way I Do" by Melissa Etheridge when it was written in January 1989. It was viewed by music directors purely as coincidence at the time of the song's release to radio in March of that same year. Khanoda received a mechanical license from Etheridge's publishing company to use the line and gave her a co-songwriting credit in order to have "Say A Prayer" appear on "klosure.". 1
