Sanguivoriphobia
Sanguivoriphobia is characterized by a specific and isolated fear of vampires. It literally translates into "fear of blood eaters."
Causes
While sanguivoriphobia is a little known phobia, the cause of a phobia can be very generalized. The most common risk factor linked to sanguivoriphobia is a traumatic event in a person's life that they link to vampires. This does not mean they came in contact with a living work of fiction. This simply means that they associate a traumatic event in their life with either a film or a book related to vampires. Often times, people might simply see vampires in the media and fear the concept of them. The concept of a vampire is someone physically sucking the life out of you and for some people, even if vampires are completely fictional, they might leave people living in fear.
According to the Mayo Clinic, risk factors for phobias can also include age, [...] and family.
Symptoms
Due to the lack of information AbOUT sanguivoriphobia, symptoms can be very hard to identify. However, for most people, it could be as simple as having a lot of anxiety when they see vampires in the media. In more severe cases, they might even fear that people they know might be/become vampires. Often times, someone with any type of phobia will try to conceal it, living in fear and not telling anyone else about it.
Treatment
Sanguivoriphobia is just like any other phobia. This could involve therapy and in more extreme cases, medication. Sometimes, when it comes to phobias, people will meet with an exposure therapist, or someone who helps with exposure therapy. By exposing the patient to their fears (in this case, probably a few vampire movies), they will force them to become more comfortable around their fears and eventually, eliminate it all together. Also, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is often used to help patients with severe phobias.
