San Felipe Neri Parish Choir
The San Felipe Neri Parish Choir is church-based choral group serving the 6:00 PM Mass in San Felipe Neri Parish, which is located at Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong City
History
The San Felipe Neri Parish was organized on May 26, 1962. Composed of students and professionals, the choir was organized through the joint efforts of Fr. Leonard Agcaoili (Assistant Parish Priest), Mrs. Cecilia Reyes and Dr. Gregorio Gabriel with the full support of then Parish Priest, the late Rev. Fr. Pantaleon de Guzman, who was a very good musician and a composer in his own right . Thus Fr. Agcaoili became the first Spiritual Director, Dr. Gabriel became the first President and Mrs. Cecilia Reyes became Choir Master.
Objective
The Choir has its fourfold objective namely:
- To serve and to love God through singing.
- To become good Catholics, thereby persuading others to join the fold of our Mother, the Church.
- To instill the love for the church and secular music
Concerts
After Fr. Agcaoili, Fr. Marcelino Reyes became the next Spiritual Director followed by Fr. Anastacio Gapac, then Msgr. Emmanuel Sunga who was then very fresh from the seminary walls. His love for music encouraged us to hold our 1st choral concert May 24, 1969, followed by the 2nd choral concert January 9, 1970. The 3rd choral concert was held last December 29, 1987 in Phil-Am Life Auditorium to commemorate our 25th year as choir.
For 43 years now, the choir still exist. The members of which are already children of former choir members. We are now composed of 30 ACTIVE members with Mrs. Cecilia Reyes, still our choirmaster and his son, Dennis Reyes III our conductor.
