Samsung SCH-W531
The Samsung SCH-W531 is a CDMA & GSM dual-mode cellular telephone . In New Zealand it is carried by Telecom New Zealand. The handset is a hybrid dual-mode however only one radio can be ACTIVE at one time, not both concurrently.
When switched on the device is defaulted to search for a CDMA network. Switching between networks can be done via the Settings > Network Selection or you can set to menu type so when you turn it on you will need to select the preferred options.
The device is designed primarily for use on the home CDMA network but can roam to CDMA and GSM networks worldwide. The GSM roaming capabilities are provided through the roaming partner, O2
It is also possible to unlock the sim card feature for using other service providers such as Vodafone. This is done by going into display settings, pressing 0, then entering 159753, then turning off "sim lock". However, this code may not work for phones recently purchased in New Zealand, as Telecom New Zealand has changed the codes by reflashing their newer phones. The sim unlock code for newer phones is reportedly 123580.
This model is equipped with a total of 43 megabytes of shared flash memory, which can be used to store user-data like Images and Videos and Mp3 files. The phone is also equipped with 9 megabytes of non-accessible EFS memory for the storage of purchased and downloaded content.
This wireless phone is WorldMode and operates on the CDMA 800 MHz radio frequency band and the GSM 900 MHz/1800 Mhz bands.. This phone also features SMS text messaging, a speaker phone, a MP3 player, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, video capture, a web browser, and it is bluetooth enabled for headset use (but does not support an A2DP profile).
