Salem Saleh Mohamed

Salem Saleh Mohamed (born May 2, 1947 in "Thayaan" Village, Al Hadharem region, Yafea, Yemen) was a figure in Yemen's politics.

He completed his Preliminary, Elementary, and Secondary education in city of Aden and Taez City (1964-1965). He then joined the "Arab Nationalist Movement" at young age and one of the co-finder of "South Yemen Revolutionary Organizations in 1960. Its name was changed the following year to the "Free Revolutionary Movement of Occupied South Yemen Liberals" which is one of the seven organizations that composed the "National Front to liberate South Yemen" (1963).

He took part in the national liberalization struggle against the British Occupation in Aden and South Yemeni settlements where he took over the student sector in Aden in 1965, and participated in the preparation of liberating the regions by the "National Front" in 1967, especially in "Khanfar" region, Abeen Government.

After National Independence on November, 30 1967, he was appointed as the Governor of the Western Directorate (all Yafea’s areas in Abeen and Lahej) of the 3rd Governorate (Abeen Areas) 1969-1970, and participated in all political organization conferences of the National Front.

In 1970, he was appointed as a General Manager of the General Administration of Cooperation and Agricultural Reform. 1970-1975, the Secretary of the Political Committee of Agriculture and Agricultural Reform presided by the Head of State. He was elected in the 5th Conference of the National Front, 1973 as a member of the Central Committee of the Political Organization of the National Front. 1973-1975 he was elected as a general secretary of the Yemeni Council for Peace, Solidarity, and Friendship with other Nations. 1975-1979 he was elected as Secretary of the International (Foreign) Relations of the political organization of the National Front.

Member of the Central Committee of the "Yemeni Socialist Party" since its establishment in 1978, and a member of his Political Office since 1979, and obtained "Independence Medal" of the First Degree in 1981. 1979-1983, Minister of Foreign Affairs. 1983-1986, Secretary of "Culture and Media Department" in Central Committee of the Yemeni Socialist Party and Member of the Political Office. 1986-1994, vice General Secretary of the Yemeni Socialist Party.

Presided the "South Part" in the Yemeni "Political Regulation Committee" for union since 1989 and awarded the 14th of October Revolution Medal for his contribution in the Yemeni Revolution. In 1990, he was elected as a member in the First Yemeni Presidential Council after union "Republic of Yemen", and re-elected as a member of the Yemeni Presidential Council after the General House of Representative elections in 1993.

He was abroad during the War of 1994 and exerted his effort to stop the war and he had to stay outside Yemen after then, and returned to Yemen on January 2003. Later, in May 2003, he was appointed as the Presidential Advisor.

He has many political books, and cultural and literary contributions and issued "On some Ideological Work Issues", in 1983, and two books "National and Union Struggle Memories and Converses" and" When will the Arabic healing start?" In addition, there are two books under printing.
