Saleen (Aladdin)
Saleen is a fictional character, voiced by Julie Brown, in the Disney animated series Aladdin.
Background
Saleen is "Ariel gone bad." Saleen is a red-haired mermaid with an attitude believing she can win any man and if he's not free she doesn't shun anything to get the 'competition" out of the way. And if he keeps refusing she will use her magic to make him fall in love with her.
Such as the day when Aladdin and his friends went to the beach for a day. While Jasmine and Aladdin are having a romantic talk a wave comes and splashes Jasmine, coating her with seaweed and filling her pants with seawater and fish; the others can't help but laugh. Humiliated and angry, Jasmine storms off until she reaches a tidal pool and sees her reflection, just then a wave comes and pulls Jasmine under by a whirlpool. There she meets our enemy, Saleen, who thinks she's caught a sailor but instead a princess. She gives Jasmine the ability to breathe and talk underneath the surface. They get in a conversation whilst Jasmine's hair is fixed by Saleen's pet octopus, Armand. When she tells Saleen AbOUT Aladdin, the evil mermaid sets her sights on our hero.
At shore she changes her tail into legs and after trapping Jasmine under water in the care of Saleen's octopus she walks along the beach until she finds Aladdin. She gets him to walk to back to Agrabah meanwhile doing her best to make him forget that he's looking for Jasmine. Meanwhile Jasmine isn't going to let Aladdin steal away from her. She dumps the octopus and swims to holes near the surface where she sees her city and Aladdin with Saleen on his arm through certain spots where water is located like a puddle or a well. She does her best to get his attention but Saleen prevents that by making the water in the bucket flow away. Finally in a fountain Jasmine gets her boyfriend's attention by telling him she's trapped by Saleen. Saleen refuses to let her go. Jasmine tells Genie to play along with Saleen because it's a cruel game to the mermaid. Genie brings the message across to Aladdin. He takes Saleen to a fish restaurant where Team Aladdin trap Saleen into the sea getting Jasmine free at the same time.
The evil mermaid doesn't take no for an answer and pulls Aladdin deep under water nearly drowning him. Aladdin and Jasmine struggle with Saleen until she's launched across the ocean by Submarine Genie. Aladdin and Jasmine make it up and, for the moment, everything is fine.
Saleen goes back and out to get Aladdin in episode 55, Shark Treatment. By sinking one of the Sultan's ships and steeling a statue she lures Aladdin to somewhere in the ocean. While her octupus, Armand, distracts them, she appears and throughs her starfish on Aladdin's chest where it makes an imprint. Saleen then leaves after getting her starfish back. Aladdin touches the mark and feels a slight pain but is drawn back to genie (who is under attack by Armand). They manage to escape and get to a small island nearby. Aladdin goes after the statue but is stopped by Armald. Fortunately for Aladdin, Saleen's starfish mark has given him faster swimming ability, so he tangles the beast right into a knot and leaves to the island.
A little while later, Aladdin ponders how he was able to swim so fast. Then, suddenly, his feet and then his hands inflate and then become webbed. Aladdin tries to tell genie, but he has a craving for some fish he's cooking. After stuffing himself like a pig, the mark on Aladdin's chest begins to glow so he jiggles it and his ears become webbed, and he gets a set of gills. Unable to breath properly, Aladdin chugs some water. Then, a giant shark fin comes out of his back and his pants tear off and his lower body becomes a shark tale (similar to a mermaid). Aladdin heads for the water but is stopped by his friends (who fears Saleen will get him). Aladdin faints, so genie puts him in a giant fish bowl. There, he looses his hair, chest lines, vest, etc. and his face is remodled into the head of a shark (he looks like a shark with arms). Saleen frees Aladdin and keeps him as a pet, where he makes the final transformation into a shark. Armand is ignored so he leaves for a little while. Genie and the gang try to rescue Aladdin. They get through to him for a split-second, but Saleen's magic is too strong and Aladdin becomes intirely loyal to her. Then, Genie, Abu, and Iago, with the help of Armand, destroy the starfish and Aladdin's body returns to normal.
They grab the statue and leave. Armand then frees Saleen. She speaks of one day getting Aladdin under her grasp again and making him her dark, merman prince of the sea but there is never another episode with her again.
