History

The origin of the SACHAMOTI (also written as SACCHA MOTI) brand is disputed and has been the subject of litigation before Indian courts.

Some sources attribute the origin of the brand to the early 1980s. However, court records and statutory filings reflect competing claims regarding the date of adoption and prior use. In trademark registry documents, differing user dates have been asserted, while statutory certifications indicate regulated commercial activity from the early 1990s.

Authorizations issued under the AGMARK scheme in 1993 and 1996 have been cited in proceedings as evidence of regulated manufacture and trade during that period. Courts have also noted that trademark registration alone does not conclusively establish the origin of a mark and that claims of prior use must be supported by contemporaneous documentary evidence.

The matter remains subjudice, and no final judicial determination has been made regarding the origin or ownership of the brand.
