Ryan Begelman
Ryan Begelman (born October 8, 1982) is an American entrepreneur. He is the CEO at Bisnow Media, And Co-founder of Summit Series. Begelman is a graduate of Northwestern University.
Bisnow Media
Begelman is the CEO of Bisnow Media, a digital media, live events, and education company based in Washington, DC, and New York City. As of 2014, Bisnow Media publishes email newsletters across 25 North American cities and produces approximately 250 events a year attracting over 55,000 attendees. It has 75 full-time employees and a subscriber base of over 500,000. Although it publishes AbOUT other industries as well, it has calculated itself to be the largest commercial real estate publication and events producer in North America. Bisnow Media's on and offline content has been described by BizBash as: “quick, but educational, relevant, and personable, bringing together architects, developers, and investors around interesting topics”. In 2012, Bisnow Media earned almost $11 million in total revenue, and was estimated to reach $14 million at the end of 2013.
Summit Series
Begelman and fellow founders created Summit Series, an annual conference which has been described as a “young TED meets Burning Man” and “The Hipper Davos”. The annual event attracts entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, artists, musician, and other thought leaders. Past attendees include Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson, Beth Comstock, and John Legend. Summit events have raised tens of millions of dollars for business and nonprofit ventures.
In April 2013, Summit purchased Powder Mountain, the largest ski resort in America, for a reported $40 million. Summit is building a sustainable residential community on the mountain called "Summit Powder Mountain", with the goal of creating an epicenter of culture and innovation. Plans for Summit Powder Mountain indicate a development of 500 homes and a village of comparable density, a recording studio, conference lodge, startup incubator and an innovation laboratory.
Begelman co-directs the Summit Action Fund, which has made investments in disruptive startups such as Uber, Warby Parker, and Change.org.
