Ruth Gee Downs
Ruth Gee Downs (born Ruth Gee, March 8 1962) is a developing artist located in the town of Parry Sound, in Ontario, Canada.
Early life/start of career
As a child, Ruth started writing songs and playing guitar at age 12. As she was growing up the Canadian moved between the U.S. and Canada becoming a dual citizen. At an early age she began playing for school concerts and town festivals. Ruth was educated in Upstate New York with a Music major studying Music Theory, Music Harmony and for many years in Concert Choir. Later went onto study Audio Visual Technology of the Arts in Toronto. Studied Photography, Audio Recording, Video Recording, Video and Television Production. She married and moved out to Southern California. After a while Ruth's music wasn't the next big thing she decided to take a break, and have a family. She then had a son, Caleb Christopher Downs, born November 4, 1993 shortly after decided to leave California and move to Tennessee. While busy raising her son, she enjoyed evenings attending Sam's place at the Ryman hosted by Gary Chapman and did some studio work with Stac Underwood on her album "Rebel with a cause" recorded with Tim Akers on piano in Nashville. The album did quite well on the European charts.
Away time
As time went by Ruth continued to write music, but her only performances were for her three children. In 1997 she had another son, Aaron Gin Taylor Downs, born March 13, 1997 and several years later she had another son, Joshua Josiah Downs, born August 26, 2002. Shortly after Ruth returned to her home country, Canada.
Returning to Public Performance
Now Ruth Gee Downs is in the town of Parry Sound where her Grandparents and cousins first came from China managing restaurant businesses. She has recently won a local talent contest called Parry Sound Idol winning with a song written for Parry Sound and the second written for her son Caleb. Recently, she has performed for Bands on the Bay an annual show in Parry Sound. Her latest performance would be at the Charles W. Stockey Centre in the celebration of it's 5th year anniversary performing with students from William Beatty School and other local area schools with folk guitarist Katherine Wheatley.
Album
Ruth plans to make a CD in the near future and she plans to release an album in the next year or so.
