Rubicon (fanzine)

The late 1980s witnessed an 'age of change' for many of the people involved in the 'punk scene' in Cheltenham, UK, leading to the creation of the fanzine Rubicon.

The energy, passion and sense of shared vision was in the air - from the beer gardens of Montpellier, to the gig venues that became the weekly magnets for the cars and vans that travelled to them. Birmingham's Mermaid, Coventry's Hand and Heart, the Wych [...] in the Malverns, Bath and Leamington Spas are the names that still ring in the ears of those Cheltenham and Gloucester boys and girls who were a part of that time, and that space. It was during this time that RUBICON the fanzine was born. Only two editions made it into the hands of the Cheltenham faithful....the first print run of the RUBICON/DAILY REVOLUTIONARY was just 200, and the second reached 500.

The message behind RUBICON was that everyone IS famous, everyone HAS a talent, a skill and through the pages of the zine people could 'show off' that talent. The content was varied and was a success in that people, other than band members, had their articles and their artwork included. Of course a number of bands made it onto its pages too; Decadence Within, Chumbawamba, Oi Polloi and Shrapnel to name a few.
