Ruben Ochoa (artist)
Ruben Ochoa (born 1966, Mexico City, Mexico) is an artist who lives and works in Mexico City. The work of Ruben Ochoa is mainly focused on photography and his subjects refer to several topics. He is a self-taught artist. Winner of several contests such as “Nopal Urbano”, organized by Mexico’s City Government, and the “12vo. Salón Internacional Mercosur" in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He exhibited his large format project THERMO at the IV World Water Forum during 2006 in Mexico City. In 2007 the Lux Art Institute of San Diego, CA (also L.A.) commissioned him a piece for his private collection for which he delivered the REAL IMAGE project. He has performed many exhibitions around the world. In Mexico he has exhibited at the National Anthropological Museum, Torre Mayor, National Auditorium, San Angel Cultural Center and the National Center of the Arts among others. He has also exhibited in Spain, San Diego, New York, Atlanta, Argentina, Berlin, Stuttgart, Cambridge, London, Russia, Portugal, Slovenia, Vienna and Denmark. Sculptor Javier Marin invited him to participate in his catalog book for his Casa de America’s exhibition in Madrid, Spain in 2007. Since 2007 the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs is presenting around Europe his 360º project. He was asked to be the curator and museographer of the “Dialogo de Bancas” exhibition at Estacion Indianilla Cultural Center in Mexico City. The Art on Paper magazine asked to participate in his cover article “Diaries of a Young Artist” for the July/August 2008 issue that will be included in a book. He made the Leonora Carrington’s 2008 recent works studio and he is preparing his “Bestiary (or the new deadly sins)” project to be exhibited at the American British Museum in Mexico City in 2009.
